This is one of the everyday dishes that I find very easy to cook, especially when I use coconut milk from the box..heh! I think there are many different version of the recipes for this ayam masak lemak cili api, some use onion but mine doesn’t need to.
Of course you will need the cili padi and fresh turmeric to get the authentic taste. I add in lemongrass (serai) and daun kunyit as well to get the nice aroma.
Just to have additional lauk, I usually will fry some fish like cencaru or kembung. If you like potato, you can add in kentang in the masak lemak but you have to wait a bit longer and add on more kuah so that your potato will soften in the gravy.
